The clubhouse at the world-class The Hills Golf Course at Arrowtown has a live grass roof. This presents a challenging situation of having a heavy layer of ‘soil’ on the roof. The risk of the roof leaking into the clubhouse below had to be eliminated with a permanent solution.
Adhesion Sealing was contracted to grout and seal the pre-cast panels and apply a roof membrane. We chose Volclay Swelltite waterproofing membrane for the roof garden. It is a bentonite clay-based product which, when confined, provides excellent protection from water. If water penetrates the liner layer, the bentonite activates to stop the flow of water. The reassuringly dry result confirms our choice.
Silaflex MS Sealant was used on all concrete pre-cast panel joints at Alpine Aqualand in Queenstown. This is a premium quality paintable sealant with excellent movement capabiltity. It is well suited to withstand the extreme range of climatic conditions that Queenstown endures each year. Alpine Aqualand won the Master Builders Supreme New Zealand Award 2009.
The University of Otago Information Services Building – all below ground waterproofing and the application of sealant to the alucobond on this iconic Dunedin building was completed by Adhesion Sealing. We also applied non-slip stair nosings to the edge of the stairs. Also known as the “Students’ Library”, the Information Services Building won several major design and construction awards, including the NZ Master Builders’ Supreme Award for Commercial Projects 2003.
The Palms Shopping Centre’s 6000m2 carpark in Christchurch presented the special challenge of having a retail complex below it, demanding permanent water protection under the duress of heavy everyday vehicular use. Adhesion Sealing applied Nuplex Bituthene 5000 waterproofing membrane as a smart solution. It is the ideal product due to its long-life flexibility – it has the ability to bridge any cracks that may develop in the concrete throughout the life of the building. An asphalt topping provides protection from mechanical damage and wear.
